A highly anticipated shogi star from Poland steps forward to the gateway to Japanese official shogi player.

Karolina Styczynska (24) who is from Poland and had devoted herself to study of Shogi with the aim of becoming professional player is planning to be qualified third rank joryukishi( temporary professional player) which is the first honorific title and first rank as a gateway to official professional player in Japan. She was qualified this title because her result has reached required result (9 wins and 3 losses) by winning matchup game held by the Joryu-kishi training institution of the Japan Shogi Association on June 28th. She will apply the qualification officially to Japan Shogi Association and become third rank joryu-kishi(woman player) on October first.

Being certified as official professional player is from second rank so third rank is temporary license of professional. She needs to earn required amount of victories at official games within 2 years and if she gets promoted to second rank or higher she will become official professional player. No foreigners are enrolled even in the kishi training institution which provide professional training program except for her. She has stepped forward to become the first foreign professional player.

She became interested in Shogi in 2008. The first chance for her to know shogi is when she found one scene of manga "Naruto" that characters played shogi and then she gathered up information about shogi.

She was absorbed into playing shogi at one of online shogi game sites "81dojo" for 5 hours a day. Her ability surprised even official professional player who joined this game.

In 2011, she joined in the international shogi festival held in France and she won in the fourth place.

In 2011 on May 19th, she defeated Sachiko Takamura who was official professional player holding third dan. She became the first foreign woman amateur player defeating official professional player at first elimination round of Joryu Oza Tournament.

In 2013 on May 18th, she won second victory to Tamao Shikano who is official professional player holding second dan at first elimination round of Joryu Oza Tournament.

In 2013 on May 26th, she applied exam of the Joryu-kishi training institution. Her result was one win three losses at first exam which is held 8 matches in 2 regular meetings.

In 2013 on June 23rd, she applied second exam. Her result was 2 wins 2 losses and her result of all 8 matches was 3 wins and 5 losses. She was qualified to enter the training institution "C2" by fulfilling required results in 8 matches.

In 2014 on July, she overcame the Europe championship and World championship held in Budapest.
