As you gain more experience, you sometimes become less careful and arrogant

As I wrote on the title, Gaining more experience sometimes spoil sales and evaluation and reputation from customer. This problems come probably from you who is cocksure about your work like "I work hard and I have contributed to this restaurant for long time so I am the rule. Everything I do for customer is correct."

The longer experience people have in one place ,more confidence they are going to have to show their influence in that community. Additionally they turn their eyes towards the aspect of how efficiently complete the task they're in charge of. I mean they change their priority in their mind that achieving their given task efficiently is much more important to give priority to than focusing on customer's request and solution politely.

I know if people keep working as the year go by, the range of responsibility they have is going much bigger and bigger, whose fact leads people's mind to get rid of wasteful task which may possibly be actually needed to pile up a tiny trust and they only think out mechanical efficiency of that task not to face at extra troubles by behaving and treating sincerely to customer.

If you are led into this kind of stance, it is pretty danger to keep working in that company. What kind of benefit could you make with the stance? Without exception, needless to say, every companies expects all workers to create a value which is likely to contribute to benefit. Benefit is not only money but your smile or polite behavior which make people comfortable to make them customer think come again.

If you weren't able to come up with the benefit you can create why would you have to stay and work at that company?
When you think about the reason why the company hires people, you throw up rising customer values and make a notice of the fact that the essential value of company's existence is not pursuing the efficiency of the task but making values to existing customers and expected customers.

The most important thing you need to do is to remember what state of mind you was in at first. Retrace your memory of your ambition you had when you were freshman.

Observe people who work in your living territory

At the restaurant or deparment store which you often pay a visit to, you're always waited on by a veteran staff and new assistant. Which staff‘s impression do you think is much better for you to feel comfortable to keep shopping ? You can get a clue to change your stance by observing the difference of their behavior towards job.

veteran new worker
No smile Good smile
curt behavior and answer amiable behavior and answer
small voice and being more like gruff working machine rather than being unmotivated loud voice and being full of energy
doing excellent efficient work but thinking customer's solution as one of just routine simple task not getting used to the job but focusing on each customer's solution seriously and sincerely
inflexibly rejecting customer's request by bringing up company's policy and trying not to increase extra task. make effort for the present as occasion and customer may demand

Of course worker's approach manner to customer depends on their fundamental attitude towards their work. However as long as I have seen people working in restaurant or department store, all new worker is very polite and motivative but veteran is kind like a machine they only finish the given tasks mechanically.

I hope you always remember the emotion you started present job and keep making your value to customers even if you become veteran as the year goes by. Customers love the people who support to buy with polite and friendly communication.
